Amber is treasured and valued for its beauty and color since Stone Age, with most documented Amber deposits formed within the last 90 million years.

Amber is a fossilized organic resin or hardened tree sap produced by ancient trees to secure protection from diseases and heal branches that break. The Amber resin deposit occurs decomposed in bogs, swamps, forests, coastal areas, inland marshes and buried by the trees' roots for thousands or millions of years.

Resin younger than two thousand years is called Copal, which later turns into Amber, so the fossil record transition from tree sap to Copal and Amber by a natural cooking process. Due to the soft, immature, and not fully fossilized Copal state, jewelry makers prefer real Amber to Copal.

Amber means different things to people in other languages. It is called electrum in Latin and Elektron in Ancient Greek, meaning "Beaming Sun," which later became the words electric, electricity, and relatives because of Amber's ability to bear a charge of static electricity. The Persian or Iranian name for Amber is Kahraba, meaning "attraction of straw." The attraction is due to the static charge created when Amber is rubbed with wool or animal fur, thus attracting light objects such as straw or wool due to its electrical properties, which resulted in using the word Kahraba for electricity in Arabic.

The word "Glaesum" was the Old German name for Amber compared to the Old English word "glaer" (glass), but the modern German term for Amber is "Bernstein" (from the words Berne-, barn-, bornsten- ) related to "burn" and "stone" while it is "barnsteen" in Dutch.

The Lithuanian and Latvian refer to Amber in the terms "gintaras" and "dzintars," respectively, in their Baltic Languages. The Slavic, an Indo-European language, calls it "Jantar," and the Hungarians named Amber the "gyanta," meaning resin. The words gintaras, dzintars, Jantar, and gyanta originated from the Phoenician word "jainitar," meaning "Sea-resin."

Many gemstones help users to connect with light, but Amber brings warmth. Hence, Amber is not just a material for making jewelry. It is known to have therapeutic, anti-inflammatory, immune-boosting properties, and healing power. Amber's energies are very solar, creating a sense of warmth, health, and well-being in the wearer. It is a belief by the Greeks and Romans that it can attract misfortune and evil spirits away from people.

Amber is used to stimulating the body's metabolism as it empowers the body's natural healing powers, known as an effective treatment for respiratory-based allergies, convalescence, rheumatoid arthritis, empowering the muscles of the heart, produces a positive effect on the nervous system and the kidneys.

Amber is a natural and popular remedy worn as a necklace for teething babies in Europe and recommended to be worn or carried by anyone recovering from any illness or injury. Amber can also spur one's innate capacity to manifest prosperity.

Amber significantly contains insects or plants inside, which substantially boosts its demands. This type of Amber is quite useful for scientists since it hints about plants and insects living million years ago.

Amber's healing, anti-inflammatory, immunity-enhancing, stress, and pain relief properties result from the high Succinic Acid it contains. Succinic acid is one of the natural acids found in foods such as fresh meat extracts, cheeses, broccoli, sugar beets, etc. The acid gives Amber its healing properties.

Scientific research has proven this claim, so if you are interested in Amber for its health benefits, it is best to choose jewelry made from raw Amber since it contains the highest amount of succinite acid.

Natural Amber jewelry worn creates warmth on the skin releasing succinic acid, absorbed into the bloodstream. Babies as young as three months old can wear the Amber necklace as a teething necklace until two years, usually when teething ends. When worn, the chain relieves pain and other teething symptoms as oils are released from the warm Amber into the skin, providing the baby with a calm and relaxing effect. The necklaces are made not to fit in the baby's mouth, and when worn, someone needs to supervise for safety reasons.

Amber necklaces are also worn by pets, which help to repel fleas and ticks from the pets. The specific resinous aroma released and the static electricity created is useful for repelling the insects. Adults seeking to get relief from pain in the throat, neck, and head should wear a natural Amber necklace, and if it is for arthritis, joints, or rheumatism, it is suitable to choose a bracelet. Wearing Amber jewelry for a longer time provides all its health benefits as it also helps reduce anxiety and remove fatigue.

Amber is classified based on its types and based on the locations where it occurs globally; for instance, the Baltic Amber is the most common mined commercially in the Baltic Sea of Lithuania, Poland, and Russia. The other types originate in the Dominican Republic. Mexico is also known for its red Chiapan Amber. Baltic Amber is 50 million years old, while Dominican Amber is 14-40 million years making Baltic Amber older.
